What to bring
01 / Notary

Fast, in-person notarization in Putnam County.

Need something notarized? Come in — we'll be notary-equipped every day we're open. No appointment, no membership, no hassle. Standard New York State fees apply ($2 per signature). If you need something printed or scanned as part of the process, our print desk can handle that on the same visit.

What to bring

  • A valid, unexpired photo ID — driver's license, state ID, passport, or permanent resident card
  • Your unsigned document — do not sign it before you arrive. The notary must watch you sign.
  • Every signer — if multiple people are signing, all must be present with their own IDs
  • Any witnesses required by the document — ask us in advance if your document needs witnesses beyond the notary

Documents we commonly notarize

  • Affidavits and sworn statements
  • Power of attorney (POA) forms
  • Real estate documents (deeds, lien waivers, some closing paperwork)
  • Loan and mortgage documents
  • Medical forms and HIPAA releases
  • Parental consent and travel authorization letters
  • Vehicle title transfers and bills of sale
  • Copy certifications (where permitted by law)
  • USPS Form 1583 (we'll notarize this free when you rent a mailbox with us)

What a notary can and can't do

A notary public in New York verifies identity and witnesses signatures — that's the core job. A notary cannot give legal advice, draft your document, tell you whether to sign, or interpret what the document means. If you need legal guidance, bring the questions to an attorney before you come in to sign.

Fees

New York State caps standard notary fees at $2.00 per signature. That's what we charge — no surcharges, no "convenience fees." If you need multiple copies notarized, or if your document has multiple signers, the fee is per signature.

Special cases

  • Mobile / off-site notary — not currently offered. All notarization is in-store.
  • Electronic notarization (eNotary) — not currently offered.
  • Will or living trust — we can notarize signatures, but New York wills require specific witness procedures. Bring your witnesses, and we strongly recommend an attorney's guidance first.
  • Apostille & authentications — we notarize the document; the apostille itself is issued by the NY Department of State. We can advise on the process.
Notary FAQ

Common questions.

Do I need an appointment?

No. Notary is walk-in during our regular business hours. If you're coming for a complex multi-party signing, a quick heads-up email helps us set aside time.

Can I sign the document before I come in?

No — please don't. The notary is required to witness your signature in person. Bring the document unsigned.

What IDs do you accept?

Any government-issued photo ID that's current and unexpired: driver's license, non-driver state ID, U.S. passport, U.S. passport card, permanent resident card, or military ID.

How much does it cost?

$2.00 per signature — the standard New York State fee. If your document needs two signatures notarized, it's $4. If you're renting a mailbox with us, we'll notarize your USPS Form 1583 for free.

Can you notarize a document in another language?

We can notarize a signature on a document in any language as long as we can identify the signer and confirm they understand what they're signing. If you don't read English fluently, please bring someone who can explain the document to you — the notary cannot.

Can you notarize an I-9, wedding certificate, or vital record?

I-9 employment forms are typically not notarized (they're verified by an authorized employer representative). We can't notarize birth, marriage, or death certificates — those are issued by the state, not notarized.

Do you provide witnesses?

Staff members can sometimes witness if available, but we can't guarantee it — please bring your own witnesses when your document requires them. Witnesses must also bring valid ID.

What if my document needs an apostille after notarization?

We notarize the document; after that, you'll submit it to the New York Department of State for the apostille. We can walk you through the process and, if helpful, ship the completed document through our shipping counter.
